SPIRITUAL ACTIVITY IS DUE MONDAY - May 11th

1) For Monday, May 11th, please have read the Intro & Chs. 1-3 of From Science to God . We will discuss in class. Please bring your book to class. Spiritual Activity is due on this day.

Please bring the answers to these 5 questions to class on Monday:

  • 1) What were the key questions for Russell is his search for G-d/Truth? Briefly summarize his journey as explained in Ch. 1.
  • 2) What is the metaparadigm that most science is dependent upon?
  • 3) What is the shift Russell is calling for?
  • 4) What does Russell mean by the Sentient Universe?
  • 5) What questions do you have after reading the 1st two chapters?

2) For 2nd meeting - Tues May 12th - 1st, Wed May 13th - 6th, please read Chs. 6 & 7 and respond to the following 2 questions:

  • Explain Russell's insight about the Essence of the Self.
  • Explain what Russell means by "Consciousness as God".

3) For our 3rd meeting - please read Chs. 8 & 9 and answer the 2 questions below:

* Briefly Describe the 4 Spiritual Paradigms. Then, explain what Russell says about the Spiritual and Scientific paradigm coming together. - Ch. 8.
* What is the Great Awakening referred to in Ch. 9? What do you think, is it possible, is it happening now, is it necessary for our survival as a species?

4) For our last regular class on Tuesday - May 19th, please do the following:

Please read Huston Smith's Final Examination pgs. 244-249.  Please bring your book to class as we will discuss what he says for our Final Day.  Please answer these 3 questions in your notes for our discussion and bring to class to turn in.

1) How does Smith deal with the relation between religions?

2) What wisdom do these Wisdom Traditions offer the world?

3) Given our pluralistic, modern world, what is our response going forward in the complex times we are living in?
