Internet Literary Resources
SI's Search Engines (Wilsey Library Search Page) -- A great place to begin your search
HotBot's American Literature Directory
Excite's American Literature Directory
Lycos American Literature Directory
Also try WebCrawler, Infoseek, AltaVista and any other directory or search engine you know of. If you're using a Macintosh with System 8.5 or higher, also try the Sherlock application (apple-F).
Also, many universities offer great literature directories. Check out the American Literature Online page at the University of Missouri for an example of an outstanding directory. Also check out Vanderbilt's site and UCSB's site.
Other resources for students include Study Web and Pilot-Search. Pilot-Search isn't a resource for aviation. Instead, the site organizes and provides access to the vast quantity of information about literature available through the Internet. You can browse categories such as authors, children's sites, commentary, bookstores, journalism, writing techniques, and many more. When you enter terms in the Search box, results are organized by category. The Featured Pages section includes a selection of top-rated sites.
Warning: You must correctly cite any information you find on the Internet. Any reference to passages or ideas found on the Internet without proper reference is considered plagiarism and violators will be dealt with accordlingly.
Also, be forewarned that you can waste much time searching for information on the Internet. You will still find the best literary criticism in books. Check out the collection at SI's Wilsey Library and at USF's Gleeson Library. (Students attending any Catholic high school in San Francisco may enter USF's Gleeson Library by showing a student body card. You may not check out books, however.)
