guidelines for Prayer
Purpose. The purpose of the reflection –prayer period at the beginning of class is to listen and reflect on some aspect of our common journey toward full life today, tomorrow, and for eternity.
Time: Normally, the prayer period should not extend beyond five minutes. Exceptions can be made, but please give mr. hanley at least one day’s warning if your prayer is expected to go over the time limit.
Content: Most students prefer to use a song from a CD. But you are certainly encouraged to consider a passage from the Bible, a poem, a picture, a very short story, or some other resource that may have a special meaning for you.
Procedure: Normally, the following should be included in your prayer:
Hit the Tibetan bowl three times allowing for 5 seconds inbetween so that the class can center themselves.
Begin and end the prayer with the sign of the cross - You will use the traditional "Let us remember..." wherein the class will respond with "...that we are in the presence of God"
Please explain why you picked “this prayer” and what it means to you.
Please allow the class “any comments or reflections” prior to ending the
prayer period with the sign of the cross.
Anything Else:
It is helpful if the class has copies of the words to better understand and retain for possible future use or reference. We have lyrics for over 300 songs located in the 3 drawers in the back of Fr. Stiegeler’s classroom on the second floor.
mr. h will set-up any CD for you
After the prayer, please give mr. h a piece of paper with your name, date, period, and prayer subject on it. You could use a copy of the lyrics for this purpose.
One of the more printer friendly sites I have found for lyrics is: Lyric Freak
