General information: Welcome to our information site! The St. Ignatius San Francisco-Barcelona Exchange Program started in August of 1999. Since that date more than 50 students from SI have participated in the program. Sant Ignassi-Sarrià in Barcelona sends 5-6 students to San Francisco each fall. These students are hosted by SI students and their families for approximately three-four weeks. After hosting a student from Barcelona, the SI students are invited to live in Barcelona for approximately one month during the following summer. See links below.

 

Calendar of Events:
August 18-25: Spanish students arrive from Barcelona.
September 10-15:
Spanish students return to Barcelona.
November - December: SI students receive information about the program from their Spanish teachers or via this website and are invited to submit an application to be a host student for the following fall.
January 15:
Applications are due.
February:
Students who have submitted full applications are interviewed.
March 1-15: Host families are selected for the following fall.
June 12-18:
SI students who hosted a student during the previous fall depart for Barcelona.
July 10-16:
SI students return from Barcelona.


Labor Day Weekend Camping Trip
Each year the moderators of the SF-Barcelona Exchange Program organize a camping trip for the SI host students and their exchange students over Labor Day Weekend. This past fall 2008 the group camped in Yosemite for three nights. Previous
trips have taken the group to Morrow Bay, Sacramento, Monterey and Carmel.

Barcelona Day Trips

While in Barcelona, Sant Ignassi-Sarrià hosts a week of day trips for the students visiting from the U.S. Students have visited the following sites while living in Barcelona: Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, Olympic Village, Paseo de Gracia, Museum of Art of Catalonia, La Pedrera building, Manresa, Monserrat, Sitges, Cadaqués, Lloret de Mar and other villages on the Costa Brava.
