Turnitin.com is one piece in the process of students becoming better writers. The highest orders of thinking, according to educational theorists, are analyzing, evaluating, and creating. A student's essay is often the creating portion of this equation, and research forms the necessary foundation for the analysis and evaluation. Because that research uses the work of others, students have an ethical responsibility to give credit to the hard work of those who did the work previously. Turnitin.com helps it requires a certain degree of metacognition wherein students keep track of their own thought process, and give credit to where it was helped and by whom.
To begin the process, proceed to turnitin.com, and click on the New Users link in the rop-right.
As a student, you will choose that option from the next screen.
At the next screen, you will use your personal information as well as information provided by your teacher to actually register for the site. (1) The Class ID and (2) the Class Enrollment Password will be provided by your teacher. At step (3), use your name and SI email address.
In step (4), create a password for yourself that you will use for the site. Step (5) asks you to choose a security question and provide an answer to the question; this is used in case you forget your password. Answering your chosen question with the same answer you enter here will enable you to reset your password. You should choose something simple that can be answered precisely. Finally, click on the (6) Agree button.
You may receive a confirmation email at your siprep.org address; if so, please click the link to complete your registeration.
If you aleady have a login for turnitin.com from another class, you can enroll in a new class by simply clicking on the link circled below:
On the following screen, enter the class ID # and password provided by your teacher:
Once you have logged in, you will see a list of the classes for which you are registered. To submit a paper, click on the relevant class:
Inside the class page, you will see a list of any papers that your teacher wants you to submit. Click on the Submit button:
At the next screen, your name will be filled in already. Merely type in the title of your paper, attach the file in the same way that you would to an email, and click "submit":
And with that, your paper is submitted!
