Goals of Our 5-Year $50 Million Campaign

Additional Off-Campus Sports Fields

Why the need for additional field space? Over recent years, we have installed artificial turf on the upper practice field and the lower football field, and although these measures have helped significantly to increase field time, they are clearly insufficient to support our 24 field sport teams. (See table back page.) More than 60 percent of the student body plays one or more sports. More specifically, over 250 students play a field sport.

In the summer of 2008, SI completed negotiations with the Pacifica School District for longterm and exclusive use of the field at the Fairmont School site — a surplus facility with an 8.5-acre fallow field available for use, located west of Skyline Boulevard and north of Hickey Boulevard. Plans call for full-sized baseball and softball diamonds as well as a full pitch for soccer, field hockey, or lacrosse. SI will have complete control over the schedule and use of the field and make it available for rent by local teams as a means of supporting the annual cost of operation. We still need your help in raising $4 million to turn this field into a modern sports complex complete with artificial turf, dugouts, bullpens, batting cages, fencing, and a parking lot. The artificial turf will make this complex broadly and frequently available to all of the teams available and help us to defer annual maintenance costs of $400,000.

With your help, we can bring to fruition the Genesis V: New Horizons campaign to provide room for future generations of Ignatians to live up to the dictum: Mens sana in corpore sano — a healthy mind in a healthy body.

Goal: $4 Million
