Counseling Department Personnel

Jenna Boswell:

Ms. Boswell begins her fifth year as a counselor at St. Ignatius.  She is a graduate of S.I’s Class of 1998.  Ms. Boswell received her B.A. in Education from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.  She then graduated Teachers College, Columbia University, with a Master in Counseling Psychology.

Brice Campoverdi:

Ms. Campoverdi begins her third year at St. Ignatius. She was born and raised on the east coast and calls Boston home. At her previous school, she worked as a counselor and taught Psychology. She graduated from the College of Holy Cross with a B.A. in Psychology, a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Latin American Studies. Ms. Campoverdi graduated from the University of San Francisco with a M.A. in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Educational Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. Currently, during her summer vacations, she is working on a M.A. in Pastoral Ministry at Boston College.

Joan Canzone: Guidance Director

Ms. Canzone is beginning her first year at SI and in California. She graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. She holds two master degrees from Mercy College in New York. Her first M.S. is in School Counseling and the other is a M.S. in School Administration and Supervision. Ms. Canzone comes to SI with a range of experience. She was most recently a NYC Archdiocese Principal and an adjunct professor at two N.Y. colleges. Prior to that, Ms. Canzone served as a high school counselor and as an Assistant Director of Admissions at a N.Y. college. Currently, Ms. Canzone holds three New York State education credentials and is in the process of receiving two California credentials.

Serena Chan:

Prior to coming to SI, Ms. Chan worked at a Bay Area parochial high school and public high schools around the bay area for six years. In addition, she had also worked as a college counselor and as a mental health counselor at a non-profit organization. Ms. Chan received her B.A. in Community Studies and Education from UC Santa Cruz, CA. As for graduate studies, she graduated from CSU, San Francisco with a M.S. in Counseling with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. In addition to English, she speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Toishanese. Ms. Chan is compassionate in sharing her college counseling knowledge with communities that do not speak English. She has designed and delivered college workshops for non-English speaking parents in San Francisco.

Andrew Dworak:

This year marks Mr. Dworak’s thirty-fifth year at S.I.  Besides his direct counseling duties of personal, academic and college counseling, he is coordinates visits by various college representatives.He is the coordinator of the Advanced Placement Testing Program.  Mr. Dworak was awarded a Teaching Credential from the University of San Francisco as well as a Pupil Personnel Service Credential and M.S. in Counseling from CSU San Jose.

Ashley Frazer: Counseling Center Coordinator

Ashley comes to SI with over 20 years experience in the real estate business, office management and administration. She has been in education for 3 years and has a passion for faith, family and working with children. Ashley is a San Francisco native, graduate of Cal Poly State University and lives in San Francisco with her husband and two children.

Amy Harms: Learning Disabilities Support Services Coordinator

Ms. Harms graduated from St. Mary's College of California in 2000. She completed her California State Multiple Subject teaching credential in 2002. Before working at SI, Ms. Harms coached women's lacrosse at Stanford University and St. Mary's College. She became head coach of the girls lacrosse program at SI in 2006 and joined the counseling department in 2007. She is a native of Novato, California and attended San Domenico High School in San Anselmo.

Brian Kelly:

Mr. Kelly begins his fifth year at S.I.  He received his B.A. in Communications, his Pupil Personnel Services Credential, and his M.A. in Counseling from St. Mary’s College of California.  Mr. Kelly is also a member of the football staff.

Melissa Martin:

Mrs. Martin begins her ninth year at St. Ignatius.  She graduated from Purchase College in New York with a B.S. in Psychology and received a M.S. in School Counseling with a Certificate of Advance Study from the State University of New York, Plattsburgh. 

Sarah Estes Merrell: Counselor/Learning Specialist

Ms. Merrell begins her third year at St. Ignatius.  Before coming to S.I., Ms. Merrell was the Director of Classroom Services at a Bay Area art and design university where she oversaw educational support services to students with disabilities.  She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a B.A. in Sociology and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology in Education and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

Elisa Romero: Academic Support Director

Ms. Romero holds a Master's degree and a teaching credential in special education from the University of Pittsburgh. She has served students with a wide range of learning disabilities as a Learning Specialist and a classroom teacher. She is a resource for students who may need more assistance with organization/study skills, understanding their learning style, knowing and understanding what modifications/accommodations are accessible to them as well as addressing the emotional/social issues that arise from having a learning disability/ ADHD. Ms. Romero also brings an understanding of classroom teaching so she can successfully assist faculty on best practices when teaching students who have learning disability's/ADHD and for students who are struggling academically.

Michael Thomas:  Counselor/Alcohol,Tobacco & Other Drug Counselor

Mr. Thomas begins his thirty-fourth year at SI and his thirty-first year as a counselor.  His responsibilities include: coordinating and evaluating the alcohol/drug education and curricular program, assessing and treating students who have violated SI's alcohol/drug policy, and directing an in-house program for “at risk” students who have alcohol/drug and/or health related problems.  Holding a B.A. degree in Psychology from U.C. Davis, Mr. Thomas earned his M.S. in Counseling at SFSU and is a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist. If he's not in his office, you can probably find him in the gym helping to coach the girls varsity basketball team.

Meegan Whelan:

Mrs. Whelan is currently beginning her third year at St. Ignatius. She is originally from the Boston area and received her B.A. in Psychology and her Masters in Counseling from the University of New Hampshire. She also received a Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the state of California when she relocated out west four years ago. She is currently receiving a license in Marriage and Family Therapy and will be the Moderator for the Student Council this year at SI.
