St. Ignatius College Prep envisions our graduates as mature young adults - emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually. In addition to teaching these principles in the classroom, we challenge our students to experience them in the real world. In this light, the service our students engage in helps to foster clear values that guide them toward a stronger understanding of Christian charity and justice. As an integral part of the SI curriculum and experience, we ask all students to make a Commitment To Service as a part of their graduation requirement. In this way, our students strive to become “men and women with and for others.”

The Christian Service Center works to strengthen the service-learning components of our graduation requirement, intentionally developing both curricular and co-curricular experiences that enhance student learning within the community. As a Jesuit school, we have the mission to support our graduates to be “men and woman with and for others.”  Through social justice and service engagement, SI students practice what it means to live out this ideal within the real world.

Service-Learning

(information about how SI integrates service into our curriculum)

Viewed through the lens of a “continuum of service,” the Center aims to engage our students in a variety of ways, helping to facilitate their active involvement in service, faith development and personal leadership.  Our activities and programs are flexible—in the sense that they provide different entry points to our students such that their own personalities and unique styles can shine through their volunteer activities.  The following represents what we offer to students at SI, both organized  directly through the Service Center as well as through various clubs,  groups and teachers here on campus.

At minimum each SI student, at completion of their 4 years, will experience service and service-learning in the following ways:

  • REQUIREMENT---100 Service Hours, including Core Service Experience (w/journal) due at start of Senior Year.
  • SERVICE LEARNING INTEGRATION---between 10-12 hours of classroom based service-learning through the Religious Studies Department.

Freshman Year— “Ignatian Service: An Introduction”

Sophomore Year—St Anthony’s Service Plunge:  How Are We to be People with Others”

Junior Year- Year long Social Justice/Morality Class

Senior Year— “Now What? How am I Living Out an Inspiring Life”

Students are offered (and may participate) in the following additional opportunities for service and service-learning

  • Annual Volunteer Fairs (on campus)
  • Referral Support and Coaching with Center staff
  • Spanish Class Service-Learning, Espanol En La Calle
  • Summer Immersion Program (between Junior and Senior years)

If you have questions or inquiries, please email Ms. Girard or Ms. Boyd. The CSP office is open during school hours and we are located in the Student Activities Center. Students can make appointments to meet with CSP staff, but students are encouraged to simply drop by the office. The best times to stop by are before school (8:10am-8:30am), during recess, and after school until 3:00pm.
