July 2009
Dear Friend of Wildcat Athletics,
We are very proud of our Wildcat athletic program, a program that began over one hundred years ago at long-vanished Central Park on Market Street in that first rugby game between St. Ignatius and Sacred Heart. What a long and proud tradition of excellence! I am happy to report that the tradition continues. The Wall of Champions in our gymnasium foyer grew last year thanks to outstanding seasons by our cross country, golf, and soccer teams, just some of the many Wildcat teams who represented SI so well. We look forward to more successes this coming year and beyond.
Through it all, we remember that our sports program exists to instill values in our student-athletes; to help them grow as individuals. What does that mean? I can’t put it any better than Tim Gorospe ‘09 did at the boys’ volleyball awards dinner this spring:
I hope that in some way this season, I have helped someone find love for this game that I have
taken so seriously. I care so much about volleyball because on the court is where I can show
my true character; it’s where I can be myself without caring if someone sees. At a Jesuit school,
I think it’s important to discover where we experience God, how we can give thanks for the
talents and abilities we’ve been given — and in that gym, on that court, is where my faith grows.
You can help us in our mission to turn out student-athletes like Tim. There is so much we need every year to provide our students with the best athletic program possible, and I know our friends will come through. You can choose any of the following:
• A single-person pass to all our home games during the 2009-2010 school year for $60.
• A two-person pass to all our home games in 2009-2010 for $100.
• A gold pass which admits the entire family to all our home games in 2009-2010 for $175.
I’m happy to say that these prices remain unchanged from last year. And of course, sponsor pass holders continue to be entitled to admission to the Trophy football and basketball games, whether or not we are the home team. If you purchase a pass and wish to give an extra donation, any amount you send above the cost of the pass is tax-deductible. If you do not need a pass, you can simply send a fully tax-deductible donation to St. Ignatius Athletics.
A self-addressed envelope and card are enclosed for your response. Please fill out the card exactly the way you wish your name or organization to appear as a sponsor in our programs.
Thank you for helping us maintain the tradition of excellence that is SI athletics. Go Cats!
Sincerely,
ROBERT VERGARA
Director of Athletics
