PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES
By state law, all high school students who play a sport must have an annual physical examination. If a student plans to play a winter or spring sport and has not yet had a physical, he or she can get this done at the Menlo Park office of BAK Physiotherapy. The exams are on Thursday, October 29, from 6 to 7:30 PM. Click here to download the form to bring to the exam, and click here for details on this event.
TIME CHANGE: FOOTBALL vs. SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL
Due to the length of the SATs, the starting times of the varsity and junior varsity football games against Sacred Heart Cathedral at Kezar Stadium on November 7th have been moved back one half hour. The JV game will begin at 11:30 AM and the varsity game will begin at 2:30 PM.
BASEBALL: SI's GAME AGAINST SHC TO BE PART OF THE 2010 DANTE BENEDETTI CLASSIC
The varsity baseball game between St. Ignatius and Sacred Heart Cathedral originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 13, 2010, has been moved to Friday, April 16, 2010. It will be played at AT&T Park. Game time is 3:45 PM. Although SI is the home team, our sponsor passes will not be accepted, because this game is part of the Dante Benedetti Classic, with the University of San Francisco playing St. Mary's College following the SI-SHC game.
The junior varsity and freshman games against SHC will be played on Tuesday, April 13, as originally scheduled. Game times remain 3:30 PM. Sites to be determined. SHC is the home team for these two games.
The varsity game at Valley Christian originally scheduled for Friday, April 16, has been moved to Thursday, April 15. Game time remains 3:30 PM.
The junior varsity and freshman games against Valley Christian originally scheduled for Friday, April 16, have been moved to Saturday, April 17, at Fairmont Field. The junior varsity game will begin at 11 AM and the freshman game will begin at 2 PM.

CLEARANCE FORMS
By state law, anyone who plays high school sports must have an annual physical examination. If your son or daughter plans to try out for a sport at St. Ignatius this coming school year, you need to turn in a current “Medical Clearance and Parental Permission to Play” form. Click here to download this form. Many forms have already been received in the Athletic Office. Remember that a student will not be allowed to try out, practice, or play until his or her form is in. If you have not already done so, be sure to schedule your physical early and take care of this important matter as soon as possible.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Sportsmanship encompasses the practice of playing fair, taking defeat without complaint and victory without gloating, and treating teammates and opponents with respect and dignity. In accordance with the school’s philosophy and goals, the promotion of sportsmanship is of utmost importance. Sportsmanship demonstrated by all involved in athletics is perhaps the clearest sign of the Christian mission of our school. Everyone associated with an athletic event — coaches, athletes, students, parents, spectators — has a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship before, during, and after a contest. Sportsmanship includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Showing respect for teammates, opponents, and officials;
2. Maintaining self-control;
3. Showing respect for the facility in which the contest is taking place;
4. Refraining from heckling, jeering, or using profane language;
5. In general, being positive in words and actions.
Certain behaviors are considered inappropriate and unacceptable by St. Ignatius. The school and Athletic Department reserve the right to remove or refuse admission to persons who exhibit such behaviors:
1. Repeated berating, humiliating, or taunting of our coaches or players.
2. Repeated berating, humiliating, or taunting of our opponents’ coaches, players, or spectators.
3. Repeated berating or harassment of game officials.
4. Racist, sexist, or profane remarks directed at any coach, player, spectator, or official.
As parents are the primary role models for their children, it is critical that parents set the best possible example of sportsmanship, particularly when they are spectators at an athletic contest.
