SI is situated in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with a famed Gold-Rush history and tremendous cultural offerings. The Bay Area is also the birthplace of the high-tech and bio-med industries, and it is surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural environments you'll find anywhere - from redwood groves to pristine beaches.
Students at SI take full advantage of our unique location. They travel on field trips to the Marin Headlands with the Nature/Nexus class to learn about pocket beaches. They attend musicals, plays and concerts with their English and Fine Arts classes. They go on Art & Nature retreats and visit historic landmarks with the Art & Architecture class.
Also speakers from local businesses and government agencies come to SI to talk with students about their work. In 2006, for example, Intel's CEO & President, Paul Otellini (a 1968 grad of SI) spoke with science students and members of the tech club about the future of the high-tech industry.
Over the summer, students can continue extending their education beyond the classroom through the Immersion Program and trips to Europe accompanied by members of the SI faculty.
SI also offers a wide variety of summer school courses for current SI students and those entering 7th, 8th and 9th grades and sports camps for students starting at age 6.
